Dallas Cowboys Should Look to Sign RB Fred Jackson Immediately

As the 2015 NFL season is set to get underway, Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys still have a major question mark at the running back position. Neither Joseph Randle or Darren McFadden has shown that they are capable of stepping up and starting, which makes finding a new running back a very real possibility. Fred Jackson was released by the Buffalo Bills, and the Cowboys must look to sign the veteran running back immediately.

DeMarco Murray was the superstar of the Cowboys' offense last season, rushing for 1,845 yards and 13 touchdowns last year. There is no one available that can replace him, but there are options that can help replace him quite a bit more than either option they have.

It was strange to see the Bills release Jackson, and quite a few people aren't happy about the move. Jackson has been one of the long-term members of the Bills and was a fan favorite throughout his entire tenure with the team.

Last season with the Bills, Jackson had to step up and play a somewhat large role. He wasn't a huge difference maker, but he did rush for 525 yards and two touchdowns on 141 carries. Jackson has been a safety blanket for the Bills, but he is more than capable of turning into an above average starter behind the Dallas offensive line.

At 34 years old, Jackson still has one or two good seasons of football left in him. Many running backs would be slowing down at his age, but he is more than capable of picking things up for whoever picks him up. The way that Buffalo released him also will put a chip on his shoulder, which he can use as motivation.

Jackson is a very intimidating presence at 6-foot-1 and 216 pounds, and he still possesses the ability to make some big plays here and there. He definitely can be the type of difference maker that takes pressure off of Tony Romo and the aerial attack, which is exactly what Murray did last season. They don't need a guy to rush for nearly 2,000 yards, but a 1,000-yard back is a necessity.

Needless to say, it will be interesting to see whether or not the Cowboys bring Jackson in for a visit.

Expect to see Jones look into a player like Jackson before the regular season gets underway. They have considered the possibility of adding another running back, and Jackson is the best option available for them at this point in time.
