There is a new girl coming to Fox’s New Girl. We know that line was hacky, but come on, you are reading an article about New Girl so we are guessing that you are OK with it. Zooey Deschanel is leaving the series for a brief period while she goes on maternity leave, and being replaced by Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 star Megan Fox. The series is likely a welcome distraction for Fox who is currently in the midst of a high profile divorce from her husband Brian Austin Green.
Zooey Deschanel can’t be the new girl for every. Megan Fox is joining the cast of New Girl. The former Transformers actress will be replacing Zooey Deschanel while she is out on maternity leave. Executive producer Liz Meriwether recently released a statement to the press about Megan Fox’s casting (via Entertainment Weekly):
“It’s insane to me that such a gorgeous person can be so funny, but I guess we just all have to accept it. I’ve been a fan of her comedic skills since This is 40, and I’m so excited to have her on the show. We had Megan in mind when we wrote this part – she’s the perfect person to come in and shake these guys up.”
Zooey Deschanel’s departure from the series is supposed to be temporary, but if her recent comments to The Huffington Post are any indication, she might be looking to leave the apartment for good. In an interview early this year Deschanel discussed wanting to distance herself from her adorkable image:
"I don’t always identify, perhaps, with the way that I’m portrayed in certain public contexts. I try to stay away from that sort of thing. That was something that was calculated, you know what I mean? That was our marketing department at Fox and they did a really good job with our first season, but that's a word that describes the character that I play, not me. I don’t personally have identification with that word myself."
