Sony Eyes Miles Morales Ultimate 'Spider-Man' Movie Reboot, Passes on Peter Parker?

Ultimate Spider-Man, Miles Morales, could make an appearance in Sony's standalone Spider-Man spin-off film. In a vague statement to Yahoo Movies, director Jon Watts leaves the possibility relatively open. Sony apparently has its eyes on the biracial Morales to be their Spider-Man, instead of the better-known Peter Parker.

In a recent interview with Yahoo, Watts says, "I can't talk about that, because, you know, that will reveal too much, we're still writing the story...we haven't finished all the way through the story yet, so who knows."

This is great news for fans of the character who were outraged when Marvel passed on Morales to use Peter Parker as their Spider-Man. Although we know that Tom Holland will be Peter Parker in Marvel's Spider-Man, there is speculation that Sony may circumvent using Peter Parker altogether, and switch things up with Miles Morales. Is this something that could be a possibility?

There isn't a lot to gather here, but there is just enough for fans to pick apart and read into. So, what say you fandom? Do you think that Miles Morales might make an appearance? This would be an interesting idea, allowing Sony to start fresh, without actually starting the Peter Parker story over again.

Another factor to consider with using Miles Morales is the fact that Marvel films are not racially diverse. There are very few black superheroes on screen until the Black Panther hits theaters during Marvel's phase 3. According to Cinema Blend, "Adding the biracial Morales to the proceedings not only provides an additional black and Latino perspective to the universe, but also that of another child. This is a great move that gives more kids in the audience someone to directly identify with." Adding Miles Morales to the mix would only help to strengthen the MCU. It would give Marvel a fallback plan, should Tom Holland's Peter Parker fail to bring in big ticket sales.

The only downfall to introducing two Spider-Mans into the MCU would be if Marvel isn't quite ready to jump into the multiple universe pool quite yet. Marvel may stay where they are and flesh out the universes that they have already begun to show moviegoers The Earthbound universe, the cosmic universe and the Micro-verse. These are three really big playgrounds, and it just doesn't make sense for Marvel to add another one quite yet.
