David S. Goyer's Superman Prequel 'Krypton' Gaining Traction

David S. Goyer is secretly working on a Superman prequel set on the Man of Steel's home world called Krypton. Goyer has big plans for the show, which will take place 200 years before Superman leaves the planet.

David S. Goyer is a wanted man in Hollywood at the moment. He is responsible for a large majority of great superhero films like Dark Knight, Batman Begins, and Man of Steel. His talent doesn't just stop there. He has also lent his talents to great television shows like Constantine and Fast Forward, and even wrote for video games like Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. Constantine was a show that was doomed by NBC before it even started. For those of us that watched it, it was brilliant. On the gaming side, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is held by gamers to be a perfect game.

Out doing promotion for his Starz series, Da Vinci's Demons, Goyer spoke a bit about the television and film industry's infatuations with reimagining origin stories. Goyer told Variety, "I can't tell you how many times people have said 'we want you to do a 'Batman Begins' version of X." He goes on to say that is exactly how Da Vinci's Demons was pitched. Goyer is not wrong by any means. Hollywood has developed a love affair with recreating origins for timeless characters, in hopes of rebooting the franchise.

Goyer also took a moment to update us on his secret Superman project, Krypton. The series will take place 200 years before Superman leaves Krypton. This might mean that the focus of the show could be the creation of the super villain, Doomsday. This is all assumption at this point. Goyer tells Collider that the project is still a go, and we might hear some news soon. He claims that the show won't be all about the visuals if made like a film would be.

His inspiration for the project came from his time with Man of Steel. He said that the Krypton sequence in MoS was a lot longer, but was cut down during the writing process. He said that, "The first draft, the first forty pages were on Krypton, so we compressed that all down to fifteen minutes and there were a lot of ideas that I wanted to use in the film that didn't ultimately make it into the film."

It is unknown at the moment just how a show like this could be pulled off, but I am sure that it would be something akin to Gotham. It would be hard to believe that the show would not be a visual fest. You have to CG an entire planet, especially if you are trying to keep it anything like Krypton was in Man of Steel.
