Republican Presidential Candidate Ted Cruz Takes Pointed Shot at Donald Trump

As the Republican Presidential race heats up, Ted Cruz took a shot at Donald Trump and made it clear that he doesn't believe Trump will be the nominee.

Quite a few of the Republican candidates have made their dislike for Trump very much obvious over the past couple of weeks. He has made a few enemies along the way and there is no question that he is beginning to wear out his welcome. While some current polls still show him leading the way, there is a very high likelihood that he will begin falling out of the race in the fairly near future.

Trump has made it very clear that he doesn't know much foreign policy and some of the promises that he has made are absolutely ridiculous. He also has been very rude to other candidates and there is no place in the oval office for an arrogant candidate like Trump. As a businessman he knows how to say everything that people want to hear, which will only get him so far when the race really gets underway.

Cruz may not be one of the top candidates for the Republican race himself, but he didn't shy away from taking a shot at Trump. He said in an interview with CNN that he doesn't believe Trump will be the Republican nominee and expanded on why he believes that.

"I think that's right. I think that, in time, I don't believe Donald is going to be the nominee and I think, in time, the lion's share of his supporters end up with us," Cruz said. "And I think the reason is what I was just saying, that if you look to the records of all the Republican candidates, there's a big difference between my record and that of everyone else if you ask, who has stood up to Washington? I think his involvement has been tremendously helpful to my campaign, because it's framed the central question of this primary."

Those comments may not look too malicious, but there is obvious tension between Cruz and Trump. He hasn't been all that vocal throughout the first two debates, although he hasn't been given a lot of time to speak either. Perhaps that will change moving forward with the exit of Scott Walker freeing up some time.

There are a good group of followers that have latched onto Cruz and he could win quite a few more over with a strong showing in the next debate.

Calling Trump out is one way to get a name in the media, which could be exactly what Cruz is trying to do by doing this. Getting his name out more is the only way for him to call attention to his campaign on a national level with the media. It may not be the most mature way to do it, but it could very well be effective for him.

All of that being said, Cruz has a very strong opinion about Trump and it will be interesting to see if he is right. A lot of people seem to believe that Trump will stick around long-term, but others don't think he is a serious candidate.

No matter what ends up happening, Trump has added to his legacy with this presidential campaign and has gained quite a few new fans.
