The Chicago Cubs head to St. Louis tonight for the opening game in their series against the Cardinals. Coming off a win against the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Cubs are no doubt looking to capitalize on high morale from a nine game winning streak. Tonight's starting pitcher for the Cubs is Jon Lester, whose had a fairly decent season this year. Chris Coghlan will be returning to right field. One thing the Cubs will need to keep an eye on is first base. Lester has not been as effective as he could be at keeping runners on 1B. The Cubs have only made it to the playoffs 12 times in the last century. If they want to stay in the playoffs, they'll need to pull together and play extremely well against the Cardinals.
The St. Louis Cardinals take to their home-field in Game 1. Yadier Molina will be starting at catcher, his first start since tearing a ligament in his thumb on September 20th. Hopefully he will be able to perform to expectations and not further injure his hand. He'll be batting seventh in the Cardinals lineup and is expected to wear a thumb splint for protection. John Lackey will start as pitcher for the Cardinals tonight. He has had a fairly good few last games, with a 2.29 ERA in the last stretch of the regular season. With a strong post-season history over the last few years, the Cardinals have a good chance at continuing their run.
