Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner divorce rumors have started popping up again. Now it appears that Affleck's casting as Batman might be the reason behind all the 2013 break up talk.
Rumors of Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner's divorce spread like wildfire while the actor/director was away from home filming Argo. Affleck's infamous Oscar speech only helped fan the flames:
“I want to thank you for working on marriage for ten Christmases. It’s good, it is work, but it’s the best kind of work, and there’s no one I’d rather work with.”
Affleck tried to kill the rumors by my poking fun at him self on Saturday Night Live. He even brought his wife in on the joke, telling the audience:
“While winning an Oscar was a huge thrill, giving an Oscar acceptance speech is completely terrifying. You may remember that in my speech I thanked my wife, while also saying that the essence of marriage is work. We work together on our marriage. Some uncharitable souls on the internet took that to mean that our marriage is some kind of manual labor.That’s not it. You define what’s important to you by what you dedicate your time to. My wife knew exactly what I meant. Would you just dispel this notion and tell the people what I meant by ‘marriage is work’?” Affleck asked her.
Garner then replied with what we were supposed to asume was a joke:
“It’s a way that we talk privately about how committed we are to our marriage. I’m not sure why you had to share it live to a billion people.”
Affleck then continued:
“I want to tell you how I wish I had ended that speech. I couldn’t do any of the things I do without you, without your support. You’re my angel, my life, my world.”
The touching moment was almost ruined when Gardner called Affleck out for reading from cue cards. However, Affleck saved the moment by adding:
“Yeah, but it’s true. I love you.”
But was it all truly just a misunderstanding? Now that Affleck has accepted the hectic scheduling and heavy spotlight burden of Batman, coupled with his directing of the new Fox drama The Middle Man, will there be any time for them to work on their marriage?
For now Gardner is, at the very least, feigning support for her hubby being cast as Bats. As she told MTV News:
"I was excited because he had a real take on what he wanted to do. And you know, I have to say, my husband is a pretty great storyteller himself, and I'm excited to watch him do it."
