Colin Kaepernick: 5 Potential Trade Destinations for San Francisco 49ers QB

Colin Kaepernick has been struggling in a big way throughout the 2015 NFL season. What five teams could be potential trade destinations for the San Francisco 49ers quarterback?

Throughout the 2015 season so far with the 49ers, Kaepernick has completed 61.4 percent of his pass attempts for 1,453 yards, six touchdowns and five interceptions. He has also picked up 228 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Those numbers certainly aren't bad, but he has quite a bit of work to do on his passing.

That being said, let's take a look at the five teams that could be in the market to acquire a new quarterback.

1. Cleveland Browns

One obvious destination would be the Cleveland Browns, who have no future ahead of them with 36-year-old Josh McCown and Johnny Manziel who has had issues off-the-field. Kaepernick might not be the exact type of quarterback that could help turn them around, but he would be worth picking up. He definitely has the talent to be an NFL quarterback, but he has to tune his game a bit more in order to get there.

2. Washington Redskins

Kirk Cousins and Robert Griffin III has not been the type of combination that has worked for the Washington Redskins so far and bringing in another player might be a good idea. Kaepernick certainly isn't the perfect fit for them, but he would give them a better option than Cousins has been so far. The similarities between Kaepernick and Griffin would concern Redskins' fans, but there are plenty of differences that could make Kaepernick more successful.

3. New York Jets

Another team in obvious need of a quarterback long-term is the New York Jets, who currently have Ryan Fitzpatrick and Geno Smith as their top two quarterbacks on the depth chart. Those two players aren't terrible, but adding Kaepernick to the mix would be a solid addition to see if he could turn things around with a change of scenery. Playing in New York isn't easy, but Kaepernick does have the charisma and attitude that could thrive with the Jets.

4. Houston Texans

Houston is in dire need for quarterback help with neither Ryan Mallett or Brian Hoyer being a long-term answer for them. Kaepernick would immediately slide into the starting quarterback role and would help their offense take a step forward. He might not be a quarterback that could take the Texans into the postseason, but he certainly would give them a better chance than what they currently have.

5. Philadelphia Eagles

This is one team that could surprise some people, especially with Sam Bradford just being acquired this past offseason by Chip Kelly. Swapping a player like Bradford or Mark Sanchez would be a perfect move for the Eagles. Kaepernick would fit into the offense that Kelly runs and his athleticism would be utilized perfectly for the first time in his career.

All of that being said, it will be interesting to see if the 49ers actually seriously consider trading their quarterback. He certainly hasn't worked out for Jim Tomsula and company this season and it wouldn't be too shocking to see him on the trade block at some point soon.
