It has been announced that Richard Gere and his wife, Carey Lowell, will be getting a divorce in 2013. Now, new rumors are flying which claim that cheating may be to blame for their break up.
News that Richard and Carey were calling it quits caught many by surprise. And that makes a lot of sense, considering the couple has been married for quite some time, even by non-Hollywood standards.
The couple has been married for over 11 years, tying the knot back in 2002. Prior to their marriage, Richard and Carey dated for eight years. So what was it that caused the two to part ways?
The New York Post was one of the first news outlets to report the split. The publication quotes a source as saying that his wife “preferred socializing with bigwigs,” than staying at home with Richard.
Perhaps their age difference has something to do with the alleged break up. Gere, who is 12 years older than his bride, prefers spending time around the home and not out at social events. According to the same source:
"They have a place in Bedford (New York), and he likes it because it's quiet and he likes the solitude. She likes being in North Haven in the limelight. They live next door to Jimmy Buffett and his family, and they're good friends."
When asked for an official comment, Richard Gere did not respond.
