Celebrity real estate is a hot topic in the greater metropolitan area--and the same goes for Charlie "Bird" Parker's townhouse, which has become available for a whopping $9.25 million.
The residence, which looms at 151 Avenue B in Alphabet City, was shared with the Bird's common-law wife, Chan Richardson. During the height of his career, as it's been noted, Parker and his family would frequently share Sunday dinner at this homestead.
According to the New York Post: "The Gothic Revival-style, 23-foot-wide, landmarked brownstone at 151 Ave. B boasts original details - it was built around 1849 - including double-wood doors, a decorative relief beneath the cornice and a pointed archway with 'clustered colonettes.'"
The article continues that Bird's stepdaughter, Kim Parker, remembers Sundays at the townhouse fondly. Attempting to keep his home life and professional life separate, Parker had classical music playing instead of jazz.
Kim also remembered Sunday dinners around a G-clef shaped dining room table. The third and fourth floors are home two two-bedroom apartments while the fourth floor presents an open country kitchen as well as an exposed brick wall in the living room.
The listing also claims that the home contains high ceilings, well-preserved fireplaces with mantels and original wood floors. In addition, too, there are four full-floor units, which include a penthouse with a private deck and skylights.
And don't worry--the new owner will have the option to convert the residence back into a single-family home.
The city is rich in jazz history and this can be considered one of the few remaining sites that jazz reigned supreme not too long ago.
