There has been another major update in the 50 Shades of Grey movie cast. Despite rampant rumors in the news that Charlie Hunnam was quitting the film, it appears that Christian Grey isn’t going anywhere. While news outlets and gossip tabloids were predicting his exit, the hunky star was busy meeting with the EL James, the author of Fifty Shades of Grey.
Sorry disgruntled Fifty fans (and there are a lot of you), it appears that Charlie Hunnam will be retaining his role in the upcoming and, mom-friendly, bdsm flick. At least, that’s how Twitter made things seem.
EL James really knows how to generate buzz on Twitter. In her most recent tweet, the British author tweeted a photo of a man’s tattoo, with the text “guess who.” Turns out that forearm belonged to none other than Charlie Hunnam.
The tattoo, however, was not real. It belongs to the character Charlie portrays in the FX hit series, Sons of Anarchy.
Since EL and Charlie were tweeting together, it seems unlikely that he is walking away from the once in a lifetime role. Though, he has experienced a huge backlash for having been cast in the film.
One Facebook user wrote:
“Charlie is not what many of the fans would have wanted, and that’s sadly going to hurt the movie! When it was announced that an old-looking blond man was playing the role, E.L. James lost a movie fan in me.
Still, Hunnam didn’t receive the brunt of the backlash. That distinction belongs to Dakota Johnson, who will be playing Anastasia Steele in the upcoming movie. One viewer posted:
“Dakota needs to GO! She is not the petite, pretty, doe-eyed, dainty and innocent Ana in the books. She has super small eyes, too tall, boyish body (no assets!), elongated features and angular face that make her look really old for her age - paired with the fact that she smokes and has a past of drug and alcohol abuse...I'm sure all of that is what makes her look so worn and old and her teeth gross. She is not an attractive girl - she's very homely, and that's not Ana. They can dye her hair brown and give her extensions but she still won't even come close to the character in the books. Not to mention she hardly has anything credible or worthy to her name. Charlie is okay...he isn't anything more than just another hot guy to me (and I am a big SOA fan) and Christian is STRIKING. But at least he's good looking and a good actor. They could've done a lot worse, like that did for Ana.”
