Hans Zimmer, the composer of many blockbusters, is temporarily trading in his baton for a stage piano. Having never performed a whole tour of his own music before, that will all change next spring as he gears up to go to Europe for the Hans Zimmer Concert Tour 2016 and has released a trailer video about the tour. According to Indiewire, (and suggested by the trailer promoting the tour), there's a possibility that Johnny Marr (of Smiths fame) will join Zimmer.
This wouldn't be the first time Hans Zimmer and Johnny Marr have teemed up, however. Marr has recorded for Zimmer in several film projects, including Inception and The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Also, in October 2014, Marr stopped in for a two-day Hans Zimmer concert in London. The trailer for the event in Europe has been released, and features both Hans Zimmer and Johnny Marr, who offer some perspective on what spurred the Hans Zimmer Concert Tour 2016.
Of course the scope of Hans Zimmer's work hardly needs to be mentioned, but here's a sampler anyway. The Lion King, Inception, Man of Steel, Spider-Man, The Rock, Gladiator, True Romance, the entire Christopher Nolan Batman trilogy and many more films are set to Zimmer's sounds. Chances are if just one of these films appeals to you, then April's event should at least bring some closure to concert-starved Zimmer fans.
Of his tendency to avoid performing, Zimmer said in the trailer, "I've spent my whole life terrified of being on the stage, [but] you can't let fear rule your life." According to Variety, Hans Zimmer has long suffered from crippling stage fright, which has kept him from pursuing the stage on his own terms. However, after his successful two-day concert (Hans Zimmer Revealed) at London's Eventim Hammersmith Apollo in October 2014 -- and with the help of stage companions Johnny Marr and Pharrell Williams -- Zimmer is emboldened to tackle April's full touring schedule with confidence anew.
With Zimmer going so far as to sell out those two nights in London last year, it seems that his fans were certainly keen on the prospect. Cue more madness next sring, starting at Wembley.
