Amanda Bynes, who is currently being treated for mental illness, hasn’t spoken out about her condition. Neither has any of her family members, until now. Her mother, Lynn Bynes, recently released a statement about her daughter’s mental health and the treatment she is receiving.
It has been a really rough year for Amanda Bynes. Multiple run ins with police and the court system have landed the actress in court-ordered psychiatric care.
Specifically, it was her actions over the summer that lead to her institutionalization. Back in July, Amanda set a fire in her neighbor’s driveway. After being questioned by police, it was determined that Bynes didn’t even know who the woman was.
A convenience store’s security cameras caught the former child star enter the bathroom without her pants on. She rushed in to wash gasoline off of her and her dog, who was also covered in fuel as a result of the arson.
Initially, Ms. Bynes was ordered to spend three days on a psychiatric hold. After doctor recommendations and the pleas of her family, the judge extended her mandatory stay.
Until recently, the only information the press received about Amanda’s condition came from court hearings. Now, however, her mother released an exclusive statement to People.
Lynn came to the magazine due to the large amount of speculation and tabloid articles surrounding her daughter. Most of which, she claimed, are not true:
"I would really like everyone out there to know that almost 99 percent of the things written about my daughter in various media outlets are false or misleading. Unless it's a statement issued by our family attorney, Tamar Arminak, please take everything you read about Amanda with a grain of salt."
The 66-year-old mother was recently granted conservatorship of Amanda’s treatment and finances. This is expected to continue until Bynes is released from the mental institute.
