'Dexter' Reboot: The Truth Behind Viral Rumors Started by Inquisitr

When a Thanksgiving tweet appeared on the official Dexter Twitter feed, fans went ape at the idea of the show's return, and the news soon went viral. The words that got people's juices flowing? "His Knife's Freshly Sharpened. Who wants a leg? Happy Thanksgiving from #Dexter." So is there any truth behind these Dexter rumors? Will we finally get new episodes?!

Sadly, no.

Uproxx seems to think most of the hype was driven by an article written by The Inquisitr. The article in question, "provided no new information on a potential Dexter return. Rather, the site collected a few quotes over the last two years from various people associated with the series who have suggested that they wouldn't rule out a reboot and coupled it with a misleading 'Dexter Returns!' headline."

Inquisitr does use some very positive old quotes, though, that puts new Dexter episodes in the "maybe" file, but one thing that has been made clear is that any reboot of the show will have to include Michael C. Hall. The man. The myth. The legend.

One thing Inquisitr does note is the head of Showtime, David Nevins, once said, "It would have to involve Michael," Nevins went on to say, "I think that show is that character. If we were to do it, I would want to do Dexter in a new concept and configuration. I would want the show to feel different and not just be a continuation of the old show."

So hope is not completely lost, there just isn't anything really in the works yet. Our question is: How would you go about capturing all that is Dexter without continuing his story? Surely they will not consider a reboot where everything gets erased. Maybe Rita's death has just been some horrible nightmare like in Married With Children when Al dreams Peg is pregnant. Let's hope not.

Perhaps a prequel could work? A look at all of Dexter's early kills, but that could only give us our fix for so long. Dexter's golden years maybe? What accommodations will he make for himself in the killing room after he goes geriatric?

Okay so our ideas aren't the greatest. They certainly don't reconfigure the show, but how would you go about it? Do you have any thoughts on how to turn these Dexter rumors into a reality? Let's talk about it. Use the comments below to tell me your ideas.
