Politician's Prayers for San Bernardino Attack Victims Mocked by New York Daily News Cover

Twitter is all aglow with public prayers for the victims of yet another mass murder event and possible terror attack. The most recent attack occurred in San Bernardino and resulted in the death of 14 innocent victims. However, The New York Daily News and other tweeters mock these prayers to make clear that it is not enough for politicians to simply pray for the victims of such attacks. It is time for action.

A tweet showing the front page of the Daily News chastising politicians for contributing little more than well-wishes was posted. In large letters, the headline reads, "God isn't fixing this," and is surrounded with Tweets from Republican politicians Ted Cruz, Dr. Rand Paul, Lindsey Graham and Paul Ryan offering prayers for San Bernardino, but little else. The headline then goes on to say, "As latest batch of innocent Americans are left lying in pools of blood, cowards who could truly end gun scourge continue to hide behind meaningless platitudes."

In response to the Daily News cover, Rand Paul responded in disgust with the following Tweet recorded by Business Insider, "This cover on the New York Daily News is a deplorable example of the media putting their political agenda over the suffering of victims and their families."

Paul is not the only one angered by what the headlines imply. Christian Post writes, "I never thought I would see a day when anyone was harangued for offering prayer for the victims of a tragedy."

Perhaps people should be ashamed of themselves for bashing those who would turn to their God in a time of tragedy, but there is only so far prayer will take us. It may not be the worst thing in the world to remind people that while prayer is welcome, action is necessary. Although, the Daily News went about that (if that reminder was their intention) with all the subtlety of a sledgehammer. Regardless of media and political fighting, the people affected by this attack still need your help.

To that end, if you would like to help the victims of the San Bernardino shootings, you may want to consider these methods of doing so...

Benneta Betbadal Memorial Fund: A memorial fund for one of the victims, who in an ironic twist of fate, fled her home country of Iran to escape religious persecution of her Christian faith, only to be gunned down by similar extremists in the U.S.

Help The Lil' Mamas Support The Wetzel Family: Michael Wetzel was one of the victims of the tragic shooting. He leaves behind his wife and six children. This fund is to help the grieving family in their time of need.

Arrowhead United Way: United Way has set up a general fund to help all of the victims of the San Bernardino attack.

Donate Blood via LifeStream: If you are local and do not want to donate by giving money you can donate blood to LifeStream to help the victims of this heinous attack and others.
