Ben Folds & yMusic Announce Beacon Theatre Concert May 4; 2016 Tour

While they might be embarking on an international tour with José González next year, yMusic will also be hitting the road with Ben Folds for a 2016 roadshow as well. On their list of venues to play, the pair take to New York's Beacon Theatre on May 4.

While we might be biased to yMusic here at Classicalite, the ensemble has kept themselves busy with performances--most notably as part of the backing band for Bon Iver. It was announced in November that Mr. González would head out on an international tour for 2016. On the American leg, however, the singer-songwriter intends to have yMusic back him up.

Great news, absolutely, but now yMusic will be a part of Bend Folds and his performance here in New York on May 4. They won't just be at the New York either, No, the group intends to stay together and tour, also, through 2016.

As of late, Ben Folds and yMusic were listed on Billboard as part of the top Classical Albums earners of the year with So There.

Back in 2014, also, Mr. Folds composed a piano concerto and talked to Gramophone about his love-hate relationship with Beethoven, Ravel, Rachmaninov and Bartok.

The musician said that a lot of musical ability came from his babysitter when he was the tender age of nine. His babysitter showed him some technique and a few chords and from there Ben took off.

Initially labeling himself a drummer, soon his ear would become more disciplined and her began songwriting. The rest, as the cliché has it, is history.

Etymology aside, tickets for the Beacon Theatre show go on sale Friday at 11 a.m. so be sure to pick yours up then.

In the meantime, however, here's a little something from Mr. Folds below.
