Broadway Smash 'Hamilton' Generates Over 1 Million Tweets Through Hashtags and Giveaways
Hamilton has conquered yet another feat for theater--with a over a million tweets posted about the musical featuring the life of Alexander Hamilton. Twitter has been a platform for the play to reach its young fan base with hashtags and giveaways to make it one of the most successful productions of the last few years.
The musical, which is a hip-hop featurette of the life and accomplishments of the nation's first treasury secretary, has an outreach that stretches across a wide spectrum. With a large audience, social media is a useful tool in promoting and inviting attendees of all ages.
It's been reported:
"The sheer number of tweets was fueled by a young tech-savvy cast and audience and its crossover popularity in hip-hop circles, as well as fresh material in the form of impromptu video performances that occur periodically on the front steps of the Richard Rodgers Theatre, the Broadway home of Hamilton."
Hamilton can also pay thanks to its use of groupings, which include #HamiltonMusical, #Ham4Ham, #Hamiltunes as well as linking to the Twitter handle of its creator Lin-Manuel Miranda (@Lin_Manuel).
The show has also provided for the public schools of New York, contributing $10 tickets to students learning bout Alexander Hamilton in their school's curriculum.
With a $1.46 million donation from the Rockefeller Foundation to the Glider Lehrman Institute of American History, the reduced ticket price was made possible and has benefited scores of students through the five boroughs.
Hamilton tells the story of Alexander Hamilton, who was one of our nation's founding fathers and who also help establish the U.S. financial system as well aid in providing the Hamilton Free School, the first school in the Washington Heights neighborhood.
