National Youth Orchestra of Wales to Perform at BBC Proms

The National Youth Orchestra of Wales (NYOW) will perform alongside the BBC National Orchestra of Wales as part of BBC Proms 2012.

NYOW's August 6 performance of Bernstein's "Mass" at the Royal Albert Hall with conductor Kristian Järvi, will mark the first concert they have offered in the show.

"This special project for the 2012 Proms represents the climax of the many collaborative projects we have pioneered with young musicians in Wales over the past few years," said David Murray, director of the National Orchestra of Wales.

"Each of these projects has achieved higher standards than its predecessors and it's fitting and very exciting we are now able to celebrate a whole range of Wales's musical talent in the world's greatest music festival," Murray added.

Matthew Jones, NYOW Manager, explained, "It is not only a fantastic opportunity for our members to work with the wonderful professional musicians of the orchestra, but also the first opportunity in our 66-year history for the NYOW to have a presence at the BBC Proms."

The talented pupils will also perform tonight works by Gershwin, Beethoven and Ravel at Brangwyn Hall in Swansea under the direction of Carlo Rizzi at 7:30 pm.
