Damien Chazelle's 'La La Land' Reunites Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone in Los Angeles Oasis

In his sophomore film, Whiplash's Damien Chazelle brings the story out of the conservatory to the Los Angeles oasis. Starring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling, the new movie, La La Land, is set to arrive in theatres of July 15.

Southern California is a haven for the film industry, a pool of actors and actresses. Chazelle, who is more than familiar with the landscape, found a certain romanticism to Los Angeles and felt Stone and Gosling were the perfect pair to illuminate that quality.

Chazelle told Entertainment Weekly:

"There's an incredible romanticism in L.A. that you don't always see when you're stuck in traffic on the 405. I wanted to make a big love letter to the city and focus on that push and pull that all young artists experience, between dreams and reality, which old Hollywood musicals are so good at expressing. I just love the idea of a whole emotional arc told purely visually and musically. And it's a city that's so filled with dreamers, most of whom won't make it. I think there's something poetic about that."

Something poetic, indeed, Mr. Chazelle. One of the Whiplash stars, J.K. Simmons, makes an appearance in the film too and adds a similar color to the new production.

While one story may have dealt with the colliding of two forces, it seems this next endeavor details the elements of two identities coming together to create film poesy.

Perhaps one of the more exciting details is the reuniting of Gosling and Stone. As it's been proven in Crazy, Stupid, Love, there is a unique chemistry starkly apparent in their acting side-by-side.

And that may have been the reason Gangster Squad didn't quite hit the mark.

Nonetheless, the film arrives July 2016 and the production company has revealed some behind the scenes photography (below).
