Chaka Khan Reveals Terrible Experience on 'Dancing With the Stars,' Joni Mitchell Tribute LP

Chaka Khan is working on a new tribute album to folk legend Joni Mitchell. Recently, the 62-year-old Queen of Funk revealed that the album may be released in February and also talked about her decision to appear on Dancing With the Stars and the terrible experience it turned out to be.

Competing on DWTS isn't one she remembers fondly. She said to the Washington Post, "I was calling it 'Dancing Behind Bars.' So it's pretty tough and it seemed like it would never end."

She continued, "As soon as I got done dancing - getting eliminated first - I got back to myself and doing what I do: working hard in the studio and on the road."

In Season 21 of the program, Khan was the first to be eliminated and felt that dancing was more of an ordeal than she felt comfortable with. Dancing with pro partner Keo Motsepe, she initially stated that she "absolutely enjoyed" it--which she has recently refuted.

Perhaps this because she is older but when she performed at the Kennedy Center on New Year's Eve, Khan revealed in the same interview that she had no intention of partying after the ball dropped. Instead, she took to her hotel room to watch shows like 48 Hours.

Despite the harrowing experience of DWTS, Khan also talked about her forthcoming LP of Joni Mitchell tribute songs.

She claimed that Mitchell is her number 1 artist and songwriter "and has been for a long time."

While the public must await her new disc, they also won't see her premiering on television anytime soon--only if it's to perform her own music.

Nonetheless, check out Ms. Khan on the show below and see if you think she deserved the first boot of the season.
