From the outside looking in it might seem like the contest to fill NBC's Nightly News anchor chair is long settled with Lester Holt permanently replacing a disgraced Brian Williams last February, but that may not exactly be the case. According to the latest gossip news updates, Williams has been doing everything to discredit his predecessor in the hopes of getting his old job back. Unfortunately for Williams, he may not be up for the job even if Holt was to get the axe, as NBC News chief Andy Lack recently explained that the network isn't even considering the possibility of bring Brian back.
When Lester Holt got sick last month, Brian Williams unexpectedly returned to the NBC Nightly News' desk to fill in, reportedly to his Holt's chagrin.
One source in the latest January 11, issue of Star magazine claimed that Lester was living when he learned that the network had brought Brian back - even if it was just for one night:
"Lester was shocked that Brian was his sub...He didn't know until the last minute and he was not happy.
"He made it clear that he doesn't want Brian anywhere near the evening news.'
According to the secret insider, Brian has been doing his best behind-the-scenes to make it look like Lester isn't Nightly News material:
"[Brian] thinks that he is too good to be stuck on cable news.
"And he's been doing a lot of trash talking about Lester...Things ae getting very nasty between them."
Sadly, it seems that it might not matter how whether Brian discredits Holt or not, according to NBC News chief Andy Lack.
During a recent interview with The Daily Beast, Lack explained that while everyone at NBC still respected Williams, no one was thinking about giving Brian his old job back (via Las Vegas Review Journal):
"We're just not looking at it.
"There always could be, would be, because he's Brian, but that's not where the focus is."
