John Oliver is a misogynist, or so some might have you believe. The white cis male host of HBO’s Last Week Tonight with John Oliver is being asked to step down from his postion in a new Change.org petition. This petition, either a work of satire or sincere call to action, seeks to have Oliver replaced with a woman instead of asking HBO to also make a show with a female host.
The petitions authors are calling on HBO to replace the white cis male host with a woman, reading:
“2015 was a good year for white male late night hosts to talk about how we need to be more progressive, but how about the hosts themselves? It's time to replace late night talk show hosts with women, because COME ON PEOPLE IT'S 2016 !!”
This petition has even caused YouTuber and known oppressive white male cis scum bag, Sargon of Akkad, to change his evil ways. The rape apologist and misogynistic video maker is now supporting the call for Oliver to step down. Just check out Sargon’s first non-hate speech filled video ever and feel free to subscribe to his (if “he” still even identifies as a “male” anymore) channel knowing that it is now and forever will be a safe space, free of independent thought and problematic privileged patriarchal oppression. He is still white however, so there is that to contend with.
At the time of this report the petition to have John Oliver replaced by a woman had 3,536 supporters out of a needed 5,000.
