Riccardo Muti Takes Chicago Symphony Orchestra to Korea

Chicago Symphony Orchestra music leader Riccardo Muti may not be returning to the Windy City until February, but that doesn't mean he won't be making music with the CSO. It's being reported that the 74-year-old Naples native will be working with his world famous orchestra in Seoul, Korea on January 28 and 29, before heading back to Chicago for a couple of weeks of shows next month.

Apparently, you should assume that just because celebrated conductor Riccardo Muti is not in town that he isn't working with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

Speaking to the Korea Times about his upcoming concert with the CSO at the Seoul Arts Center on January 28-29, Muti bragged that his world renowned orchestra would, no doubt, leave a lasting impression on its Korean audience members:

"I know that Korea is a country dedicated to music.

"There are so many artists who come from Korea, and there are many orchestras, not only in Seoul, but in other parts of the country.

"But the Chicago Symphony, I think, will make an impression that will not be forgotten too easily even by the Korean people."

The CSO's stateside fans need not worry about having to wait to long for Muti's return, however, as a of series concerts and other events have already been scheduled for the middle of February, according to their recent press release:

"Music Director Riccardo Muti returns to Chicago in February for two weeks of concerts and activities February 11-20 during the Chicago Symphony Orchestra's 125th anniversary season.

"Programs include subscription concerts featuring CSO Principal Clarinet Stephen Williamson (February 11-14) and CSO Concertmaster Robert Chen (February 18-20), a Lenten performance at Holy Name Cathedral with members of the CSO and Archbishop Blasé J. Cupich on February 19 and an Open Rehearsal with the Festival Orchestra of the 2016 Chicago Youth in Music Festival on February 15."
