After making music together of more the 20-years, Decca decided in the early 2000's that it was time to end their relationship with the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal in the face of an ever-changing music industry. According to the latest industry news updates, however, the famous orchestra is once again recording new albums with the record company after signing a new 5-year deal. First on the block will be the OSM's recording of Arthur Honegger and Jacques Ibert's L'Aiglon, set to be released on Decca/Universal Music Classics on March 4, 2016.
After more than a decade-long hiatus, the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal has signed a new record deal with their historic former partner Decca.
OSM's chief executive officer, Madeleine Careau, explained in a recent press release that the organization harbors no hard feelings and is absolutely delighted to one again be making albums with Decca once again:
"We're very happy to be re-signing with the prestigious international record label Decca, with whom we were highly active in the recording market for over 20 years.
"Even though the industry has undergone upheavals and the OSM itself has diversified the ways in which it supplies its music to audiences, our desire is to continue to make recordings that enable the Orchestra to maintain its international celebrity has never faded."
Kent Nagano and the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal's first record for Decca is reportedly going to be the world's first complete recording of Arthur Honegger and Jacques Ibert's L'Aiglon.
Lev Bratishenko of Opera News opined that that the OSM's longtime director is perfectly suited to bring L'Aiglon to the masses by way of compact disc:
"Kent Nagano is an ideal conductor to keep sentimentality and bombast down while attending to the singers.
"His approach was stately and sensitive, with some capacity for violence, as in Act IV on the battlefield of Wagram, where chilling chords build a horrible vision of a 'harvest of limbs'."
