BBCSSO Matthias Pintscher Makes LACO Conducting Debut

Used to making contemporary chamber music with the with world renowned French ensemble, Ensemble InterContemporain, when he's not working with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, German born Matthias Pintscher is set to make his conducting debut with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra next month. After blowing minds at the BBCSSO New Year's concert with nonstop contemporary music, Pintscher will be switching it up when in L.A. -- opting to go with well-known works by Beethoven, Schoenberg and Ravel instead.

While an older composer might have been happy to follow tradition, The Art Desk's David Kettle recalled Matthias Pintscher's recent New Year's concert with the BBCSSO as nothing if not novel:

"Instead of easing listeners gently into 2016 with conventional New Year fare, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra went for the shock approach in its 2016 opening concert: non-stop, back-to-back, uncompromising contemporary music.

"And it felt like a marvelously bracing, ear-cleansing, provocative way to kick off the year's concerts."

For Pintscher's fans on the west coast, he will be making his conducting debut with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra February 20 and 21.

According to LACO's press release, those concerts are slated to be much more traditional than his recent work with the BBCSSO:

"Matthias Pintscher makes his highly anticipated Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra conducting debut, leading works by Beethoven, Schoenberg, Ravel and Fauré on Saturday, February 20, 2016, 8 pm, at the Alex Theatre, Glendale, and Sunday, February 21, 2016, 7 pm, at UCLA's Royce Hall."

To get your tickets to either of Pintscher concerts in February be sure to head on over to the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra official website or call them at (213) 622-7001.
