Just opened in Montana's bucolic Beartooth Mountains, Tippet Rise Art Center is dedicated to uniquely combining nature, art and architecture with live music. Director Christopher O'Riley just announced an inaugural summer season that is bound to put the Art Center on the cutting edge of mixing music and nature in a way that far surpasses camping in Chattanooga.
Inspired by it's breath taking locale in big sky country Montana, Tippet Rise Art Center is set to introduce people to a musical experience unlike anything that's been seen in a couple millennia.
In a press release touting the 20 performances slated for the Art Center's inaugural summer season, co-founder Cathy Halstead remarked that they aspired to bring back the kind of musical events once reserved solely for ancient religious festivals:
"In a way, the meeting of music, landscape and sculpture at Tippet Rise returns us to the experience of performances and celebrations at the ancient Greek amphitheaters or Stonehenge.
"It's as if the cubicles of our cities had slowly dissolved, to let us step into a much older and deeper engagement with the stars above us and the human realities within."
Speaking less of the ancients and even more of the ephemeral, co-founder Peter Halstead explained that he saw the Art Center serving as a catalyst to better help people make the connection between music and emotion (via Billings Gazette):
"There are moments in music when we are figuratively struck by lightning, when suddenly the gap between a sound and an emotion is bridged.
"At Tippet Rise, we hope to provide the kind of atmosphere, and the kind of performers, that make such moments possible."
Tickets for all concerts are $10 for adults, and free for anyone 18 or younger with all revenue going to the Art Center's education programs.
