Alan Menken & Stephen Schwartz’s 'Hunchback of Notre Dame' Cast Recording Debut Tops Billboard

When you combine the music of Alan Menken (Little Shop of Horrors, Disney’s Beauty & The Beast), with Lyrics by Stephen Schwartz (Godspell, Pippin, Wicked) you get a recipe for the perfect musical. Throw that in with a book by, frequent Sondheim collaborator, James Lapine (Into the Woods, Passion) and you have yourself one hell of a show. The name of that show is The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Based on Victor Hugo’s original novel with songs from the 1996 animated Disney classic, both of the same name, this highly anticipated musical sadly didn’t make it to the Broadway stage. However, we now have a way to enjoy this dream collaboration of musical theater talent. On Jan 22 Ghostlight records released the Studio Cast Recording of Hunchback of Notre Dame and the results speak for themselves. In it very first week the recorded has skyrocket to top of the charts landing the #1 spot on Billboard's Cast Albums, #9 among Current Digital albums, #14 of All Current Albums and #47 on the Billboard Top 200. On the first day of it’s release the cast recording reached the #5 position on iTunes Top Albums charts. It is starting to look like Broadway may have a mistake.

If you are fan of musical theater and you don’t have some Menken and or Schwartz in your collection then you are doing it wrong. Fans are jumping at the chance to add the first and currently only collaboration between the two to their playlist.

The cast of Hunchback of Notre Dame include:
