Spoleto Festival to Hold Open Auditions for 'Porgy and Bess' Choral Ensemble Feb. 19

The Spoleto Festival will be holding open auditions for all African-American singers seeking to be a part of the Porgy and Bess chorus line. Per a listing on the festival's website, the casting call is looking for singers in all voice categories wishing to be a part of the choral ensemble.

Auditions will take place in Charleston, S.C. on Friday, Feb. 19 from 12-5 p.m., according to the post. If you are one of those accepted into the production rehearsals will begin on May 16, 2016. From there, the show will host six performances and the contract period will end no later than June 12.

A most resounding opportunity, indeed, the faculty behind the production ask that all those wishing to audition have two memorized selections to offer, with one from the opera Porgy and Bess.

That's not all, however, as applicants must bring a copy of their bio during their scheduled audition time and, if hired, be able to provide accurate paperwork proving United States citizenship and permanent residency.

As per the website, it's also noted:

"To be considered for an audition, community singers should come prepared to sing a solo of their choosing (bring sheet music, if applicable). An accompanist will be provided. Send a brief bio describing current or past SATB organized choral experience in church choruses, community choirs, and/or high school or college choral settings. Email bio to Assistant Producer Sara Bennett at the address provided below. Once your materials are received, we will contact you to set up an audition time."

Porgy and Bess will be conducted by Stefan Asbury and directed by David Herskovits.

If you are interested, be sure to review your materials and visit the festival's website to apply.
