PBS ‘Live From Lincoln Center ‘ Season 41 Premiere Featuring Richard Tucker Opera Gala
PBS kicks off the 41 season of Live From Lincoln Center tonight with “From Bocelli to Barton: Richard Tucker Opera Gala. ”Named after the famed Opera Tenor, The Richard Tucker Music Foundation is a non-profit cultural organization that honors Tucker's memory by offering awards, grants and support for young opera performers.
TV Guide describes tonight’s episode of Live From Lincoln Center, “From Bocelli to Barton: Richard Tucker Opera Gala,” reporting:
“Andrea Bocelli, Renée Fleming, Angela Gheorghiu, Isabel Leonard, Christine Goerke, Lawrence Brownlee, Stephen Costello, Nadine Sierra, Piotr Beczala and the 2015 Richard Tucker Award winner, Jamie Barton, perform at the annual Richard Tucker Music Foundation gala concert. Recorded at Lincoln Center's David Geffen Hall on Nov. 1, 2015.”
The official Richard Tucker Musical Foundation website describes the organization's mission, writing:
"Programs of the Foundation, including master classes and concerts in a variety of community settings, provide performance opportunities for award winners and enrich the cultural life of the communities in which they take place. These concerts are frequently broadcast on the radio, offering an even wider public a chance to enjoy operatic and other types of vocal music.
"The work of the Tucker Music Foundation is guided by a Board of Directors whose members include leaders in business, education and the arts. The Board, which is committed to strengthening the cultural life of New York City and the metropolitan region, provides intellectual, financial and artistic counsel to the Foundation’s management from a variety of perspectives and generates a network of support for the organization from the associations and constituencies its members represent."
