Will Bollywood Actors and Actresses be Able to Conquer Hollywood

It seems a bit of a ironic question to ask, since Bollywood is the worlds largest producer of films, but more and more Bollywood actors and actresses are leaving Bollywood for Hollywood projects. Already, there are major Bollywood stars, such as Priyanka Chopra, in Hollywood. The woman who is arguably the current queen of Bollywood, Deepika Padukone, is shooting the xXx sequel with Vin Diesel and rumours are hot on the internet right now that she may be signing on to make a film with Brad Pitt. If this happens it will get a lot of press in India.

There are four other high profile Bollywood actresses preparing to try their luck in Hollywood. Nimrat Kaur, Dhanush, Preeti Desai and Jacqueline Fernandez are all doing projects in the West. Hollywood could use fresh talent and Bollywood has that in spades. Why the sudden casting of Indian actors and actresses? According to Bollywood image consultant Harish Bijoor, "India is the flavour of the season or if I may say, the decade.Having Indian faces is now the accepted format be it television or films." He also adds that a lot of glamour comes with Indian actresses. "It also works well for the actor because as soon as you cross the the Indian border, you are valued in dollars." In other words succeed in Hollywood would help boost the bottom line at home. It has also been noted that Bollywood stars are very savvy about using social media to their advantage thus making the world a smaller place to get attention around the globe.

Not everyone is keen to try film or television in the West, even though it is in fashion to do so. According to AbsoluteIndiaNews, rapidly emerging actress Sonam Kapoor had this to say about a possible Hollywood debut "When I get a role which is good enoughcfor me to act in, I'll think about my Hollywood debut.I don't want to play an exotic Indian girl. I've worked very hard to go away from the image of a heroine in India and I don't want to startover like that again. So if I get a role from Hollywood which is substantial where I can act as well I'll definitely think about it."
