Andrew Bird and Fiona Apple Debut New Song 'Left Handed Kisses'

Perhaps one of the most resounding popular multi-instrumentalists of the day, Andrew Bird has released his latest track entitled "Left Handed Kisses." The song is a duet with Fiona Apple and comes as a single off Bird's forthcoming Are You Serious LP.

The song is a witty, self-aware ballad that is almost a post-modern installation with a metafictional attitude. In it, Ms. Apple makes gestures towards Bird's attempt to write a love song, often challenging the merits of his motives.

On the track, Bird wrote in a statement:

"My inclination was to write a song about why I can't write a simple love song. The song began as an internal dialogue. At first it was just my voice. Then another voice came creeping in and I thought 'this should be a duet if I can find the right person.' I needed to find someone really indicting. She was totally committed. The session was a long whiskey-fueled night - unhinged, for sure. All worth it, of course. I can't write simple love songs. People are complex."

Of course, the song has the standard Bird elements. In the composition, the track boasts a few unique transitions that seemingly act more as movements than as song structure. There are, as one can imagine, instruments that come out of left field to give the track a certain kind of ambience.

It's a folk song that calls on itself as a folk song, absolutely.

But don't take our word it. Check out the song below and be sure to stay abreast of all news encompassing Mr. Bird as we await the debut of his next album.
