Leonardo DiCaprio Oscars 2016: Was Middle Finger Intentional?

Leonardo DiCaprio's road to winning a golden statue at the Oscars for Best Actor has definitely not been easy. It has been a long time coming, and when he finally nabbed the coveted title on Sunday, February 28 after being nominated five times before and ending up empty-handed, he gave little credit to the institutution that he quote-unquote "works" for.

Fans and celebrities alike were rooting for the 41-year-old actor to win the much-deserved award. So when it was time for the Best Actor category, everybody was on the edge of their seats. Julianne Moore then announced the winner and as expected, the nod went to Dicaprio.

The audience was in awe as the beloved actor gave his powerful speech. It was, however, hard not to notice that a certain "finger" was sticking out while holding the paper with his name on it.

Using his middle finger to clip the paper was probably unintentional and not a jab to the Academy as Leo was clearly overjoyed to finally get his Oscar.

Before the ceremony, the anticipation was too much and a plethora of Leo Oscar memes erupted. The pressure was on for the actor but, not surprisingly, he was calm and confident.

“[Leo] is not nervous at all,” the source previously told HollywoodLife exclusively. “He is very excited and ready to become a first-time Academy Award winner. He really can’t wait for it to happen. He is very excited and he even expects to win. Not in a cocky way but he believes that it is his time just like everyone else does.”
