Bruce Willis to star in Death Wish remake

Just when you thought Hollywood couldn't possibly remake anything else, they have a Death Wish remake to foist upon audiences. It seems a very strange film to remake, because it's such a creature of the 70's. The iconic 1974 film, which had many sequels, virtually kicked off the revenge action film. Its plot concerns a man who comes home to find his wife murdered and his daughter raped. And then he kills everyone involved. Charles Bronson's stoic face was perfect for the role and it made him a huge star at the time.

If you're asking whether a film like this needs remade, one need only look at how quickly Hollywood jumped to remake the super trash classic I Spit on Your Grave. There's no way they aren't going to leap at something like Death Wish. Bruce Willis has been cast to step into Bronson's shoes. You read that right, folks. The man who is most famous for 1988's Die Hard is going to do the Death Wish remake. Who says Hollywood never has any new ideas?

On to the creative details of the film, such as they are. According to theHollywoodReporter, directing duo, Aharon Keshales and Navot Papushado—whose most famous film is an Israeli revenge movie, Big Bad Wolves—are tapped to direct.

The film is to be produced by Roger Birnbaum. The original film was adapted from a novel by Brian Garfield.

When the original came out in 1974, it was a huge hit that sparked a new genre and completely revitalized Charles Bronson's career. According to WIkipedia, the original film was made for $3 million and made $22 million. The movie was so profitable it helped make Dino De Laurentiis a super producer at the time. Bruce Willis, who is about to turn sixty-one, seems like an actor who is well past his action star prime but Bronson was fifty-three in the original movie. it is a part specifically meant for an aging action star. By mere coicidence, a new Die Hard movie is in the future as well.
