Tony Nominee Jeff Daniels Returns to Broadway in ‘Blackbird’ Opening Tonight

Jeff Daniels (Newsroom) is making his return to Broadway. Daniel’s new play Blackbird officially opens on tonight. Daniels has previously earned a Tony Award nomination for Best Actor for his role in God of Carnage.

The official Broadway.com webpage for Blackbird describes the story, reporting:

“Tony Award nominee Jeff Daniels and Academy Award nominee Michelle Williams return to Broadway in David Harrower's Olivier Award-winning Blackbird. Called ‘one of the most powerful dramas of the century’ by The New York Times, Blackbird is ‘a brilliant and tantalizing study in sexual obsession that leaves one both shaken and stirred’ (The Guardian). Tony Award winner Joe Mantello directs this strictly limited, 18-week engagement.”

Blackbird starsJeff Daniels as Ray and Michelle Williams as Una.

Recently, Jeff Daniels spoke to Playbill about how he has grown as an actor, saying:

“Having done God of Carnage and The Newsroom, I’m a better actor now than I was then. There were certain things that weren’t landing for me the first time that are landing now.”

The creative team includes David Harrower (Writer), Joe Mantello (Director), Scott Pask (Set Designer), Ann Roth (Costume Designer), Brian MacDevitt (Lighting Designer) and Fitz Patton (Sound Designer).

Blackbird began preview on February 5 and officially opens tonight at the Belasco Theatre 111 West 44th Street New York, NY 10036. Blackbird is scheduled to close on June 12.
