'Transformers 4: Age of Extinction:' Mark Wahlberg and Michael Bay Talk Reboot and 'T5' News, Official Trailer Coming Soon

After massive explosions and a near-death set attack, Transformers 4: Age of Extinction has wrapped filming. The official trailer isn’t even out yet, and the new film is already getting more buzz than Bumblebee with a busted exhaust valve. Michael Bay and Mark Wahlberg both have a lot to say about the reboot and the future of the franchise. However, Michael Bay isn't planning on sticking around for T5.

Bay spoke with The Times last year about handing over the keys to the franchise after Transformers 4:

“Here’s the thing, it’s tough to find someone who’s done these kind of movies, and to have the complication of creating the new stuff that needs to be in this movie--not just characters but a new type of action, I hope--and that’s a lot for someone new to bite off. And so after this one I will leave it in the best hands possible. That’s the plan.”

Leading the cast of new characters is Mark Wahlberg, who spoke with Jay Leno earlier in the year about how Bay talked him into the film:

“We’re doing a complete reboot of the Transformers. I did a movie with Michael Bay called Pain and Gain, which comes out in April. And we had an amazing time together and really hit it off, and he said ‘Hey, you want to do this other little movie I’m doing?’ Because that was a little movie, and I said ‘Yeah, I like doing little movies.' And he said Transformers. Whoa! You know what, we had such a great experience, I’m in.”

Transformers franchise composer Steve Jablonsky recently spoke with Go See Talk about the new films soundtrack:

"I think with each Transformers film he’s [Michael Bay] wanted something different and he’s always had this kind of specific theme where he’ll really want something special so he gives me these goals to reach, 'this needs to be really emotional, this needs to be really kick ass,' and he always gives me new challenges. With Transformers 4 I haven’t had that many conversations with him, but I get the feeling that he wants something wildly different. Having said that we might use some of the old themes, though I’m not sure because it’s Mark Wahlberg now and a whole different cast, so we might just do something very different. The bottom line is Michael is paying me to make his films better. Whatever ideas he’s got, I’m going to listen to them, and fortunately he’s got these great ideas."
