‘50 Shades of Grey’ Movie Update: EL James Bashes Charlie Hunnam for Quitting Christian Role, Praises Jamie Dornan, Dakota Silent

There has been yet another major update in the 50 Shades of Grey movie. EL James, writer of the popular Fifty Shades series, recently bashed Charlie Hunnam in an interview. Her swipe came after Charlie Hunnam quit the coveted role of Christian Grey. The author also took time to praise his replacement, Jamie Dornan. Dakota Johnson, however, has yet to comment on the situation.

According to Perez Hilton, EL James has been busy talking about the cast of her upcoming blockbuster. In a recent interview, the millionaire author revealed:

"It was disappointing, but it is what it is. I wish him well. And now we have Jamie [Dornan], and that’s great. It’s been interesting with Jamie, [the fan reaction] has been so positive."

That last part about the fan reaction being positive was clearly a jab at Charlie Hunnam. After EL James announced that the hunk would be playing Christian, fans of the novel took to Twitter and Facebook to voice their displeasure.

Hunnam even received death threats, requiring him to get additional security. While there was some fan support, many were outraged by the decision, like this commenter:

“Charlie is not what many of the fans would have wanted, and that’s sadly going to hurt the movie! When it was announced that an old-looking blond man was playing the role, E.L. James lost a movie fan in me.”

Several weeks before filming was scheduled to begin, Hunnam quit the film. The movie studio released an official statement, via Twitter:

“The filmmakers of Fifty Shades of Grey and Charlie Hunnam have agreed to find another male lead given Hunnam’s immersive TV schedule which is not allowing him time to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey.”
