Lin-Manuel Miranda Announces Leaving ‘Hamilton’ for One Week in #Ham4Ham with Jonathan Groff

Lin-Manuel Miranda is leaving Hamilton...for just one week. The actor is taking a vacation. The news came during a recent, #Ham4Ham video with King George III himself, Jonathan Groff.

In a recent Groffday (King George III actor Jonathan Groff’s 31-Birthday) edition of Ham4Ham, Lin-Manuel Miranda announced that he was leaving Hamilton, for a week, saying:

“Announcement, my warranty is about to run out. I’m going on vacation next week to my undisclosed location under the sea where I recharge.”

It has not been announced who will be filling in for the lead, but Lin-Manuel Miranda has two very capable replacements. Javier Muñoz is Lin-Manuel Miranda’s regular alternative and actor Jon Rua serves as understudy for the role.

Javier Muñoz has been serving as a Sunday only alternative recently. It was revealed that that the reason behind this scaled down role was because he was suffering from cancer, as he told The New York Post:

“I was diagnosed in October. I spent about six weeks not wanting to think about it, face, it, deal with it. I had never felt fear before like this in my life.”

Renée Elise Goldsberry, the actress who plays Angelica Schuyler also commented on Muñoz scaled down role, adding:

“To understudy or standby takes a tremendous amount of humility. It’s a very supportive role. [But] when Javi goes on, that’s a lion going on, jumping headfirst into the battle. Javi proves that both sides -- supporting and alpha male -- exist. And he does it brilliantly.”
