Sony Classical Celebrates 125th Anniversary of Carnegie Hall with Release of New Box Set

Carnegie Hall is celebrating its 125th anniversary with an extraordinary box set in honor of the musical magic made in such an extraordinary place.

Sony Classical in partnership with Carnegie Hall is proud to present 43 CDs in this deluxe set that includes brilliant performances and recordings from the RCA and Columbia archives. 'Great Moments at Carnegie Hall' is available today, April 29, for lucky aficionados and Classicalite readers to celebrate 125 years of the hall's legendary excellence.

It has been considered prevailing and prominent of classical music in America ever since it opened its doors in May of 1891 where it became the essential venue for the greatest artists such as Arturo Toscanini and Serge Koussevitzky; a venue where pianist Vladimir Horowitz joined his father-in-law Toscanini and the NBC Symphony Orchestra, and Van Cliburn who astonished with a performance of "Rach 3."

With this unique deluxe edition, you will have the pleasure of having a complete previously unreleased piano recital by Sviatoslav Richter. Furthermore, it is complemented with a 104-page coffee table book, which includes notes by Director of Carnegie Hall's Archives Gino Francesconi as well as many facsimile documents and photographs.

Enjoy eight decades of Carnegie Hall's highlight performances and live the moments that so many legends of classical music ever left on that stage. By opening with two performances of Beethoven's Fifth, from 1931 and 1933 by Toscanini , to including excerpts of two Chopin evenings given by keyboard icon Arthur Rubinstein, 55 years after his Western-hemisphere debut at this same hall; the collection promises brilliance with these historical and winning recitals.

Considered as the mecca for great singers, where the salute was showcased in a "Concert of the Century", back in 1976. Names like Mstislav Rostropovich, Leonard Bernstein, Yehudi Menuhin and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, along with a Carnegie Hall hero Isaac Stern, were brought together for what was considered the event of the era. Today, we not only bring iconic artists together for stunning performances, Sony Classical's 43-CD set of legendary Carnegie Hall live recordings allows you to reminisce on classical music history any time you want.
