Marvel's Phase Three ‘Ant-Man' Update: ‘Office's’ Rashida Jones Wasp Casting Rumors

Marvel Studios will kick off its Phase Three film series with 2015's Ant-Man. Anchorman 2 star Paul Rudd is rumored to be the top choice to play the lead role. Meanwhile, The Office and Parks and Rec actress Rashida Jones has reportedly been offered the role as The Wasp.

Marvel’s president of production, Kevin Feige, spoke with IGN, earlier in the year, about the status of Edgar Wright's Ant-Man:

"We are tweaking the drafts [of the script] with Joe Cornish...and we're crewing up and prepping. There should be cast announcements, probably before the end of the year."

Since then, it has been widely reported that Paul Rudd is up for the role of the tiny Avenger. However, there has yet to be an official casting announcement. An anonymous source told The Daily Superhero that Rudd is holding out for more money:

"One of the issues with signing Rudd right now is the pending release of his next potential blockbuster film, Anchorman 2. While Rudd is just a supporting actor in the film, the source says his stock will be as high as ever after the film becomes a huge hit this holiday season. (Some speculation by the source there but let's be honest in agreeing that Anchorman 2 will make a ton of box office cash.)"

It is also being reported that Rashida Jones will play Rudd's love interest and fellow Avenger, The Wasp. Jones currently acts alongside Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt in NBC's Parks and Recreation.

Meanwhile, director Edgar Wright recently told IGN about the new film. During the interview, he danced around the question of who will be cast as the lead, however, he did offer some insight into what they are looking for:

"You'll see when you see the movie that we've definitely written interesting takes on different characters...Of course you need great actors. And I think that's actually what they've done so far in their casting is actually kind of been to cast surprising actors. They haven't gone for the most obvious people. I think from the first movie onwards...People forget that back in 2007 that Robert Downey Jr. was a gamble for them. Now when he's the biggest star on the planet nobody remembers that. But it's a great way to start and they've sort of continued with that casting throughout in terms of casting great people, and interesting people, and people you wouldn't expect."
