‘Les Misérables’ to Return to Cinemas With Dolby Remastered Version After Over a Decade

Fans of the multi-Academy Awards-winning film adaptation of "Les Misérables" will now be able to enjoy a re-release of the movie, featuring enhanced surround sound audio and a visual remastering by Dolby, across the US starting on Feb. 23, Collider reports.

For one week only, the period musical will make its debut appearance in Dolby Cinemas through its Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision technologies. In addition, select AMC theaters will be showing only two screenings of the re-release per day.

However, the remastered version is set for an earlier international release on Feb. 14 in the countries of Australia, the UK, New Zealand, and Ireland.

Tom Hooper's Celebrated Film Adaptation of 'Les Misérables'

Since the inaugural premier of the movie, almost twelve years ago, it has grossed over $442 million worldwide and has received nominations within a total of eight categories at the 85th iteration of the prestigious Academy Awards.

One of its three wins includes the Best Supporting Actress award for Anne Hathaway's performance as "Fantine," who performed alongside a star ensemble led by Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Eddie Redmayne, Amanda Seyfried, Helena Bonham Carter, and Sacha Baron Cohen.

Directed by Tom Hooper, also known for the 2010 film "The King's Speech," the film is centered on a timeless and captivating story about broken dreams, sacrifice, passion, and freedom, set in a surreal representation of 19th-century France.

As evident by its many adaptations across Broadway, the West End, and once again in cinemas worldwide, "Les Misérables" is a classic testament to the indomitable human spirit which has made it one of the most respected and well-loved musicals in history.

In regards to the upcoming re-release, Jed Harmsen, Dolby's Head of Cinema and Group Entertainment told Collider that he "can't wait for U.S. audiences to experience Les Misérables like they never have before" through its exclusive re-screening at the Dolby Cinemas.
