The Forthcoming Broadway Transfer of 'Suffs'

The Broadway-bound suffragettes-focused production first held its rehearsals last month, while entertaining a visit from one of its producers, Hillary Clinton. Now, it is running previews at New York's Music Box Theatre, a month before its opening night.

Joining Clinton as a co-producer is Malala Yousafzai, alongside producers of the show's Broadway premiere, Jill Furman and Rachel Sussman. Its book, music, and lyrics are all done by Taub, who also leads the show in the reprisal of her Off-Broadway performance as Alice Paul.

Acting beside Taub are Tony-winning "The Book of Mormon" actress Nikki M. James as Ida B. Wells, Tony-nominated "Come From Away" actress Jenn Colella as Carrie Chapman Catt, and Grace McLean (Natasha) as President Woodrow Wilson.

Joining the main cast are  Hannah Cruz as Inez Milholland, Kim Blanck as Ruza Wenclawska, Anastacia McCleskey (Waitress) as Mary Church Terrell, Ally Bonino as Lucy Burns, Tsilala Brock as Dudley Malone, Nadia Dandashi as Doris Stevens, and Tony-nominated "Slide Show" actress Emily Skinner as Alva Belmont/Phoebe Burn.

Despite the critical success that the "Suffs" Off-Broadway run at The Public Theater achieved in 2022-for one, earning four out of five stars from Time Out in Raven Snook's review-producer Furman told The New York Times that Taub has revised the musical extensively.

She said that compared to its Off-Broadway counterpart, the Broadway-bound production has had "a lot of work" done on it, including rewritten songs, a reduced running time, and the removal of "recitative" portions.

Of the changes, Sussman said: "We feel really confident in what we've created."
