Alejandro Escovedo Explores Path as One of the ‘Legendary Stalwarts of Americana’ With New Album ‘Echo Dancing’

Alejandro Escovedo has made a comeback to roots-punk this April with his new album "Echo Dancing," a fourteen-song collection that sees him wholly reapproaching and re-recording work he did as "a literate soul and true punk" (New Yorker).

Taking inspiration from the experimental strokes and musical expression of artists like Brian Eno, Judy Nylon, and Alan Vega, the career-spanning album is a bold new spin on an old sonic identity of a forerunning creative.

This record also marks Escovedo's first musical project in over six years, which has been met with critical success. In an interview with Marc Maron on his WTF podcast, Escovedo discusses the road he had to take to create an "end product" worthy of such acclaim.

"Alejandro goes forward with his beautiful and unique voice... a rock and roll guy with a tremendously heavy heart and poetic sensibility. There's nobody like him," says Maron; a longtime supporter of Escovedo's work, so much so that the artist's music inspired him to write a screenplay.

About Alejandro Escovedo's 'Echo Dancing'

Escovedo's new work was co-produced and co-arranged by the artist himself alongside "guitar maverick" Don Antonio and Italian retro maestro Nicola Peruch at the Waveroof Studio in Italy's Castel Bolognese commune.

The record's tracklist comprises rare "gems" plucked from Escovedo's work as part of fames '80s Austin groups like Buick MacKane and The True Believer, the inclusion of which is a no-brainer given that Escovedo has recently been inducted into the Austin City Limits Hall of Fame.

Additionally, he was also recognized by No Depression magazine as Artist of the Decade in the '90s because of his particular contribution to these musical acts and in light of his 2018 cinematic album: "The Crossing," which delivers scathing commentary on Washington's "xenophobia" and "bigotry" at the time.

Just last Friday, March 29, the roots-rock icon kicked off his 2024 tour with a commemorative celebration of his recent album's release at Antone's Nightclub in Austin, Texas, before embarking on a cross-country trek that will culminate back to the Lone Star State next month.

This coming Fall, Escovedo will also join Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit as a featured performer across eleven shows in both the US and Canada. View the full list of tour dates and venues here.
