Metropolitan Opera's ‘Ring Cycle’ to be Released on DVD

Deutsche Grammophon announced Monday it will release

Robert Lepage's staging of Wagner's "Ring" cycle on DVD and Blu-ray next month.

The much-debated production by the Canadian playwright, film and stage director will be available in sets of eight DVDs and five Blu-ray discs on September 11 ahead of the composer's 200th birth anniversary in May.

Conducted by James Levine and Fabio Luisi, the operas star Bryn Terfel, Jay Hunter Morris, Deborah Voigt, Eric Owens, Wendy Bryn Hammer, Patricia Bardon, and Jonas Kaufmann. The large scale production features 45-ton set of 24 planks for the scenery design.

The suggested retail price is $147.98 on DVD and $159.98 on Blu-ray.
