Warning TVD Spoilers Follow: Well it finally happened. The Vampire Diaries couple of Damon and Elena have finally broken up. However, the actors behind the characters, Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder, are reportedly closer than ever and may be dating.
Nina Dobrev’s character Elena and Ian Somerhalder’s Damon have finally called it quits. The couple were recently voted E! Online's Best TV Couple of All Time. However, even at that, Somerhalder told the publication that it might not last:
"Relationships are hard in real life, and they're exceptionally hard in Mystic Falls because when you have happiness in Mystic Falls, you have no drama. And if you have no drama, you have no TV show."
TVD executive producer Caroline Dries spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about the breakup and the effect that it will have on the show:
"The dynamic will certainly change.Moving forward, it will continue to hit some speed bumps here and there. I think the audience will be surprised by what we do. I think it's one of my favorite parts of the show."
While Dobrev might not have Somerhalder's Damon to hold on to anymore, she still has her hands full on the show. Dobrev plays Elena on the series as well as her two doppelgangers. However, this didn’t stop the producers from looking to cast her in a fourth role as Dries recently tweeted:
“We asked @ninadobrev to be Enzo but she was all, ‘I don't want to do a British accent.”
However, Dobrev still apparently finds time for Ian in the real world. The on-again, off-again couple are reportedly back in the on-again phase. Rumors that the couple are back together have been circulating for months. There have even been unconfirmed reports that the couple is looking to get married. However, the pair have been quiet about their current relationship status.
