Philanthropist Taylor Swift of Song ‘22’ Fame Donates from Net Worth to Save Symphony

At times, it seems that there isn't much that people don’t know about America’s sweetheart Taylor Swift. The star, who may be best known for her hit song "22," has had her celebrity love trysts well documented in her own albums as well as in the popular media. But did you know she was also a dedicated philanthropist? Swift has used her sizable net worth in the past to donate to causes close to her heart, like the Nashville City Library. The big-hearted country star, some $100K later, is now saving her local symphony.

This year on Swift’s 24th birthday, she donated $100,000 to the Nashville Symphony. The organization, who has fallen on hard financial times in recent months, looked as though it might not make it through the new year.

Just this past August, all the symphony’s musicians had to take a temporary 15 percent decrease in pay just to keep the orchestra from having to close.

David Pomeroy, president of the local musicians’ union, recently expressed his appreciation of Swift's gift in OK! Magazine:

“Taylor Swift has set a great example, and I hope that others will follow her lead and help ensure that the Nashville Symphony musicians’ salaries can be restored as soon as possible.”

While we at Classicalite hope that the musicians get their money soon, too, we aren’t holding our breath.

Taylor Swift adopted Music City as her home town ten years ago.

Perhaps other transplants could rally behind the local symphony as well.

So, we are looking at you Jack White. The ball is in your court.
