WATCH: Bad Beijing Buzz Swarms Chinese Pianist Yundi's "Flight of the Bumblebee" on New Year's Eve

Until now, it seemed that Chinese star Yundi (the artist formerly known as Li Yundi when he was on DG, before a move to EMI served to abbreviate his name) could do little wrong.

Within China, the main rival to Lang Lang's crown as the public's favorite pianist, his recordings have garnered consistently good reviews (as often have Lang Lang's); the critics pointed to his pianistic refinement.

And, hey...everyone is entitled to a bad day at the office.

But this Flight of the Bumblebee, a video of which has emerged from the East, is so extravagantly, err, idiosyncratic that some serious questions are being asked.

Watch, and wince.

If a tastefully brilliant recording were ever needed, that time could be now for Yundi.

He's a fine musician, but, quick, someone get the man some Mozart!
