Amber Portwood, of Teen Mom 2 fame, may have been released early from jail, but her life is far from perfect. The reality TV star’s baby daddy, Gary Shirley isn’t planning on giving up custody after her recent battle with drugs and arrest.
In the most recent edition of OK! Magazine, Gary sat down with the tabloid for a quick Q&A. When asked if he was scared that Amber may relapse, Gary explained why he doesn't plan on agreeing to joint custody just yet:
“Well, everyone knows that she went to jail for drugs and stuff. I’m not saying she’ll ever get back into that, but I hear stories of how easy it is to relapse because that pressure is always there. I don’t want to screw myself over [by agreeing to joint custody] and then have to fight for Leah. So I think it is going to stay the way it is, just to protect Leah.”
A previous article in OK! Magazine, however, claims that Amber and Gary may be getting back together.
According to a source who spoke with the publication, Gary has broken up with his girlfriend, Kristina:
“On Dec. 1, that relationship blew up, as Gary accused Kristina of cheating; that left the door open for a reunion with Amber. In fact, the former lovers have been getting along better lately, even cooperating to co-parent Leah, who is in Gary’s custody.”
Amber’s brother Shawn has refuted the tabloid’s claims and further insisted that Gary is the reason Amber went to jail:
“The source of most of Amber’s problems revolved around Gary. She’ll never go back to him again. He’s a good dad to Leah, but that’s all he’s worth in her life right now. Gary used to have intense mind control over Amber. He provoked her, especially in front of the cameras.”
