Botched Surgery Forces Farting Opera Singer Amy Herbst Into Early Retirement, U.S. Government Being Sued

A botched surgery may have effectively ended the career of a promising opera singer

And no, this is not just a load of hot air.

Kentucky singer Amy Herbst, 33, may never belt out opera again after a failed episiotomy rendered her painfully incontinent--and I'm not trying to gas you up or anything--excessively flatulent.

While I'm excessively lacking in medical prowess, myself, one story states that the U.S. Army nurse responsible for the snip accidentally severed the small membrane between her genitals, therein the cause for the farts, as well as leaving Herbst subject to permanent reproductive and digestive deficiencies.

The singer is suing the U.S. government for some $2.5 million in restitution for negligence, pain, suffering, embarrassment and because she's an opera singer...loss of income.

The case against Uncle Sam appears to have legs, as the mother did not give consent to the impromptu surgery, citing she was not alerted that the procedure was going to take place.

"The lawsuit further claims that there were other, safer methods the nurse could have employed which would have also sped up the delivery, yet the nurse failed to use them," writes VICE's Alison Stevenson.

So, while Herbst's irritating farting proves to be no laughing matter, she might just have an air-tight case.

And she should be able to receive proper recompense for a career she must now abandon, one she showed no prior intention of leaving.

Amy Herbst, the law should be on your side, the odds in your favor as the medical world must not lose sight of any human's right to deny any kind of medical procedure. Hopefully, our fundamental notions of liberty will protect you in your suit.

That said, here's Stewie "Amadeus" Griffin, providing a little comedic reprieve at Salieri's expense.
