Berlin Philharmonic's Sir Simon Rattle, Age 60, Fathers Yet Another Child

Yes, having an old father may very well have its benefits. I know from experience that my baby-boomer dad always saw a wise lesson in an everyday task.

Sir Simon Denis Rattle, OM CBE will enter this major league of fatherhood as news of his third wife's pregnancy hit the the inter-waves.

Rattle, 60, already has two sons--Sacha and Eliot--from his first marriage to American soprano Elise Ross. His latest marriage to Czech mezzo-soprano, Magdalena Kožená, brought two more boys--Jonas and Milos. And now, another Rattle will soon enter rank.

Rattle is the principal conductor of the Berliner Philharmoniker, as well as an appointee to Queen Elizabeth's Order of Merit, to which only a 24-person elite group of musicians belong.

A mouthful, surely. Rattle, too, has a lot going on. So, one wonders how the crazy-haired conductor will be as a father 60 years old when his latest child is born.

But, like I said, there are many benefits to a father equipped with an early legacy and age-old wisdom.

Cheers, Sir Simon, we welcome your newest to the top of the orchestral kingdom. He (or she) will be able to see everything from up there.

To wit, here's Rattle leading Beethoven with Berlin in Madrid.
