HBO Series ‘True Detective’ Cast: Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey Return Date

If when you turned to HBO Sunday and weren't greeted by the new episode of True Detective, you feared that your world had ended, relax, that was just the end to Peyton Manning's world. The new show, with cast members Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey, will be returning to its regular scheduled time of Sunday at 9 p.m. this week.

The HBO police thriller True Detective certainly has people talking around the water cooler.

The show is not only a walk through the dark world of Louisiana state police detectives, played by Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey, it's also an opportunity for the actors to show off their abilities to play disturbing and oft misunderstood charters, especially Matthew McConaughey, who is looking to break out of his romantic comedy stereotype by blowing everyone's mind with his riveting emotional role after another.

The actor even recently lost 38 lbs for Dallas Buyer's Club, which is still apparent in McConaughey's gaunt face during the nineties flashbacks of True Detective.

Matthew recently sat down with the Telegraph to explain the change in his art was brought about by learning to understand himself, without the company of others:

"I have to check out so I can listen to myself. For the first 10 days it's hell. Can't stand my company, have to shake all the demons, all the excesses, the wanting to call a friend - 'Aww, I'm alone, I'm so lonely' - and then you stick with it and what happens about day nine, always day nine, a little old thing goes off. 'Well, guess what, man, you're stuck with me. There's nothing you can do so let's figure out how to get along. Whatever it is I forgive you. Let's work on this.' No matter who you're in bed with you're always sleeping with one person and that's you."

Once McConaughey figured out who he is, it was just a matter of not doing every piece of crap that blew his way, he told the Telegraph:

"I was like, OK. Is there a way my career can catch up with the vitality of my own life? So I said, wait for some roles that move my floor. That shake me up a little bit."

One thing is for certain, McConaughey and Harrelson sure found powerful material in HBO's True Detective.
